De tha Dol
The local community newsletter, which was taken over by HVS in 1981, is published fortnightly
and provides an extremely useful method of disseminating information to the community.
De tha Dol includes information on community activities and events, fundraising and funding
sources, training courses, help-lines, health services and issues, consultation meetings and
documents etc.
Advertising space is free for voluntary groups and local news. Income is generated from the
advertisements from businesses.
De tha Dol is available to purchase from the HVS Office, AD Munro, Brownies, Akram’s Stores,
MV Hebrides, MacDonald’s Store Scalpay, Ardhasaig Stores, An Clachan Leverburgh, Angus
MacLean’s Mobile Shop and the Baltic Bookshop Stornoway.

approximately every two years and income from it goes to the core work of HVS.
The new 2016 Leabhar Fon Na Hearadh is now available to buy from the Harris Voluntary
Service office.

Harris Way of Life
We also have copies of the book ‘A Harris Way of Life’ by Gisela Vogler. This book is a
biography of Marion Campbell, the well-known weaver from Plockrapool in Harris.
Harris Voluntary Service provided initial financial support for the book and any proceeds from its
sale is donated to Harris Voluntary Service.
Copies are available from the HVS office and from local retailers.

Harris Roll of Honour
In 1992 Harris Voluntary Service (or Harris Council of Social Service as it was then known)
compiled the Harris Roll of Honour, which includes the names and in most cases photographs
of the men and women resident in Harris in 1939 who served in World War 2. Also Included are
other relevant details like decorations for bravery, prisoners of war, service in the First World
War, etc.
Copies of the Roll of Honour are still available from the Harris Voluntary Service Office.
